It’s Been About Family

Some of the things we love about Desert Prep is pretty much from day one they have been polite, courteous, they bring us in, they welcome us with open arms. It’s never been just about the student, it’s been about family. So not only is the student learning, we’re learning as well. The staff is very professional and teamwork is number one to them so they just create this environment that empowers every student to really dive into learning and embrace it. We can tell after every day at school, it works. Our daughter enjoys it, too, so she’s always excited to go to school the next day.

Small School Environment

The things I love about Desert Prep is the small school environment – I’m really enjoying the one-on-one my daughter is receiving with the teachers. I’m enjoying watching my daughter grow from a baby to a young lady, learning how to read and watching her develop, as well as sharing the skill – the life skills – leadership and honesty and integrity.

Enhancing Their Intelligence

What I love about Desert Preparatory Academy is that it continues to enhance the things that I value in my home, which is to have a good attitude, perseverance, and the value of education – enhancing their intelligence. My children are thriving as they go there and they come home with great attitudes about the things they are experiencing.

Math Grade Eight focuses on solving algebraic equations, variables, variables over negative or positive whole numbers plus or minus more negative or positive whole numbers equals negative or positive whole numbers and they find what the variables equal. Students explore the foundations of geometric proofs and logic.

Science

Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade Students (Dragons) study earth sciences (geology, astronomy, physics, chemistry) at every level. The curriculum incorporates history, mathematics, and composition.

Students develop concepts. They identify, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and apply new ideas. Using this constructivist approach, the teacher demonstrates a concept through a lab or class activity and leads the class to arrive at an explanation for the concept. Students create concept maps and write narratives to demonstrate their acquisition of knowledge and comprehension. Students compile and refine notes that explain how they are building on each tier to increase the depth and complexity of their understanding.

MIM8

Pre – AP English Language, Literature, and Composition Studies

Students in English language, literature, and composition studies are immersed in increasingly deep and complex material and processes in Grades Six, Seven, and Eight. They read and annotate novels and nonfiction essays and build vocabulary glossaries from their reading. Students identify and utilize literary techniques. They read short stories and use them as models to write short stories. They learn dictionary skills and diacritical markings. They exercise fine motor skills as they develop fluency in writing. They write letters, and autobiographical essays and explore persuasive, imaginative, and expository writing in topics of interest.

MIM2

Geography and history studies pertinent to reading and vocabulary extend breadth and deepen context.

Students study prehistorical eras, ancient history mythology, and read Greek tragedies. They learn the capital cities in the United States and the world, rivers, oceans, and mountain ranges. They survey wars, conflicts, and economics of different cultures. They evaluate visual art from major historical eras. They read historical and futuristic novels demanding depth and complexity of thought, and write expository and analytical essays.
